Perhaps hoped that she would later on follow in his steps as an actor, her Greek father John Yannis then made TV's "Kojak" Telly Savalas her godfather and changed the family name from their original Greek surname Anastassakis to the more American sounding Aniston. And thus Jennifer Aniston, an American actress best known for playing Rachel Green on the television sitcom "Friends," began her lifetime history. Of Greek descent, Jenn spent a year of her childhood living in Greece with her family, but she later moved to New York when her father landed a role on the US soap opera "Love of Life" followed by "Search for Tomorrow." After her parents divorce in 1980, she was raised in New York City by her mother Nancy Dow, who she in present time becomes estranged from due to the unflattering statements about her she made in a tabloid, resulted Jenn refusal to invite her to her wedding. There in New York the 11-year-old Jenn enrolled at the Rudolf Steiner School's drama club, a place where she also developed her passion for art. Soon after completed her education in the school, she went on to attend New York City's renowned High School of Performing Arts, majored in theater and fine arts. Was exposed to arts since her early age, a painting she'd done at her 11 year age was displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, an evidence of Jenn great art talent. In 1987 after her graduation, she performed in a number of TV commercials and off-Broadway productions, including "For Dear Life" at New York Public Theater and "Dancing on Checker's Grave. During this period of time this soon to be famous actress often supplemented her income by waitressing. In an attempt to get a better life, she moved to Los Angeles, where she featured in her first TV performance on the short-lived sitcom "Molloy" (1990). By early 1990's Jenn landed a succession of supporting roles in other television sitcoms, like "The Edge" (1992), "Ferris Bueller" (1990), and a recurring part on "Herman's Head" (1991). Besides, she also managed to make her feature-acting debut in the poorly received horror film "Leprechaun" (1993). |
